Sabres to open 2014-15 season against Blue Jackets

The Buffalo Sabres will open the 2014-15 NHL season Oct. 9 at home against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the league announced today.

The NHL released the home openers for all 30 teams today. The full schedule will be released Sunday at 4 p.m.

The Sabres will also play Oct. 11 in Chicago against the Blackhawks.

BUFFALO – Forward Ville Leino cleared waivers today, meaning the Sabres can officially use a compliance buyout on the final three years of the Finn’s massive six-year, $27 million contact.
