Sabres send Jack Quinn to Amerks, recall two players to taxi squad

BUFFALO – The Sabres assigned rookie winger Jack Quinn to the Rochester Americans this morning and recalled forwards Jean-Sebastien Dea and C.J. Smith to the taxi squad.

Quinn, 19, spent the first few weeks of the season on the Sabres’ taxi squad. He recently recovered from an upper-body injury, coach Ralph Krueger said last week.

The Sabres drafted Quinn eighth overall last year. In a normal year, he would likely be playing with his junior ... Read the full article

Sabres rookie Jack Quinn could be assigned to Amerks soon

BUFFALO – Sabres rookie Jack Quinn, who’s on the taxi squad, recently recovered from an upper-body injury and could be assigned to the Rochester Americans soon.

“He was on IR and we were working an upper-body injury there, not a very serious one, very minor,” Sabres coach Ralph Krueger said on a Zoom call following this afternoon’s practice at KeyBank Center. “So he hasn’t been a part of the equation here. He’s been in ... Read the full article

Sabres goalie Carter Hutton earns opening night start

BUFFALO – Sabres coach Ralph Krueger’s decision to award goalie Carter Hutton the opening night start against the Washington Capitals wasn’t surprising.

Yes, Hutton, 35, struggled most of last season, losing 12 straight decisions at one point. But his turnaround started at the end of 2019-20, when enjoyed a 6-2-0 run in February.

Hutton performed strongly throughout training camp this year, quickly morphing into one of the Sabres’ standouts. Meanwhile, goalie Linus Ullmark missed the ... Read the full article

Meanwhile, taxi-squad forward Rasmus Asplund skated with the Sabres’ main group.

Sabres coach Ralph Krueger said last week the practice groups would be adjusted every morning, so expect regular movement ... Read the full article

Goalies Carter Hutton, Linus Ullmark could share Sabres’ net this season

After snatching the starting job from Carter Hutton last season, Linus Ullmark figured to have the inside track to be the Buffalo Sabres’ No. 1 goalie this year.

Ullmark, 27, morphed into a workhorse a year ago, playing 26 out of 32 games at one point as Hutton struggled.

But not surprisingly, coach Ralph Krueger said he wants to foster internal competition and “keep the picture small.” Right now, the Sabres don’t have a No. ... Read the full article

In the COVID-19 world, the Sabres start each day by having a logistics meeting.

NHL teams can utilize a four- to-six man taxi squad this season, meaning in addition to figuring out the big league and AHL rosters, the Sabres have another group they must prepare to handle.

“This is so much a new world, trying to figure out exactly how we’re going to integrate the taxi squad,” Sabres coach Ralph Krueger said on a ... Read the full article
