Colin Miller finally adjusting to Sabres, earning more playing time

BUFFALO – For the first time in three months, Sabres defenseman Colin Miller has developed some rhythm, playing eight straight games.

In mid-November, the Sabres started scratching their biggest offseason acquisition, and he sat out 16 of the next 32 games, never playing more than four straight contests.

Following two terrific seasons with the Vegas Golden Knights, Miller has adjusted to the Sabres’ system slowly.

But Miller, 27, has been performing better since the NHL ... Read the full article

Jack Eichel’s dynamic play clinches overtime win for Sabres

BUFFALO – For 60 minutes against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Sabres captain Jack Eichel blended in, generating little offense against one of the NHL’s stingiest teams.

When overtime began Saturday afternoon, Eichel hadn’t registered a shot on goal, a rarity during a dynamic season in which he has morphed into a superstar.

“I thought a little bit there he was fighting it,” goalie Carter Hutton said after Eichel’s goal 36 seconds into overtime secured a ... Read the full article

Sabres notes: Nathan Gerbe enjoying regular duty with Blue Jackets

BUFFALO – At first, learning the Columbus Blue Jackets had recalled him upset Nathan Gerbe a little. The former Sabres winger had just arrived home in Michigan for a short Christmas break from the Cleveland Monsters.

The affable Gerbe, 32, wanted to see his family. Instead, on Dec. 22 he hurried to Long Island for the Blue Jackets’ game the next day against the New York Islanders.

“I hadn’t seen them in a while,” Gerbe ... Read the full article

Upper-body injury to sideline Sabres Kyle Okposo ‘weeks’

BUFFALO – An upper-body injury will likely sideline Sabres winger Kyle Okposo “weeks,” coach Ralph Krueger said.

Krueger said while the Sabres don’t have an exact time period for Okposo, “we don’t expect him back here for a while.”

“I’d say it’s more in the weeks category,” Krueger said prior to this afternoon’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets inside KeyBank Center. “We’ll probably be confirming that later today after the game. I don’t just ... Read the full article

Michael Frolik comfortable with Sabres, grateful for opportunity

BUFFALO – Before winger Michael Frolik waived his no-trade clause to leave the Calgary Flames, he coveted the kind of opportunity the Sabres awarded him upon his arrival last month.

Frolik, 31, will be a free agent following the season. The Czech is playing for his future in the NHL. He needs ice time to showcase his talents.

Earlier this season in Calgary, he regularly skated fewer than 10 minutes a night and sat out ... Read the full article

Sabres’ Kyle Okposo, Zach Bogosian out against Blue Jackets

BUFFALO – With winger Kyle Okposo out for this afternoon’s home game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Sabres recalled forward Jean-Sebastien Dea from the Rochester Americans on Friday.

Dea, 25, has compiled 13 goals and 30 points, both team highs, in 41 AHL games this season.

Okposo left Thursday’s 3-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens early with an upper-body injury.

Coach Ralph Krueger said Okposo was being evaluated Friday and the Sabres wouldn’t give ... Read the full article

Veteran Kyle Okposo thriving on Sabres’ ‘fourth line’

BUFFALO – Throughout his career, Ralph Krueger has refused to number lines. The Sabres coach said it’s one of his core philosophies.

Krueger believes everyone, no matter how small the role, contributes to a team’s success. Ranking forward trios or defense pairs would take away from that.

“I just (have) the respect for the depth that teams need to be successful and the role players that I need,” Krueger said after the 2-0 Sabres prepared ... Read the full article

Linus Ullmark struggles again in Sabres’ ugly loss to Blue Jackets

BUFFALO – By the middle of the winter, Linus Ullmark was beginning to steal games from Carter Hutton and supplant him as the Sabres’ starting goalie.

Ullmark, 25, began this season splendidly, compiling a sterling 9-1-3 record in his first 14 outings. He didn’t suffer a regulation loss until Dec. 8.

After Hutton and the Sabres started slumping, Ullmark remained a reliable presence most nights. It looked like he would become the undisputed No. 1 ... Read the full article
