Sabres fire Darcy Regier, Ron Rolston, hire Pat LaFontaine, Ted Nolan

BUFFALO – Pat LaFontaine was crossing the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge on Tuesday when a customs official realized the former Sabres superstar was in the car.

“He said, ‘You should be running the Sabres,’” LaFontaine said this morning inside the First Niagara Center.

Little did that official know LaFontaine was about to become the Sabres’ new president of hockey operations.

Report: Sabres to name Pat LaFontaine president of hockey operations

BUFFALO – The Sabres will name Pat LaFontaine their president of hockey operations this morning, according to TSN’s Bob McKenzie.

The status of general manager Darcy Regier and others isn’t known. The Sabres have called a 10:30 a.m. news conference inside the First Niagara Center.

LaFontaine, a Hockey Hall of Famer and team legend, is respected throughout the NHL. His No. 16 hangs in the First Niagara Center rafters.

Goalie Ryan Miller dazzles again in shootout victory over Kings

BUFFALO – Seconds after Tyler Ennis’ shootout goal secured the Sabres’ first home win this season, the slick center found franchise goalie Ryan Miller in the wild celebration scrum.

Miller had just finished another dynamic performance Tuesday, making 43 saves and two shootout stops in the Sabres’ 3-2 triumph against the Los Angeles Kings inside the First Niagara Center.

BUFFALO – Robyn Regehr and the rest of the Kings had a team function at the Los Angeles Zoo last week, at a time when the city’s infamous traffic was awful.

Sabres hoping to finally win at home, earn crowd’s support

BUFFALO – Fifteen days ago, as the Sabres began clawing back from a three-goal deficit against the Dallas Stars, the atmosphere inside the First Niagara Center shifted dramatically.
