Sabres notes: Nikita Zadorov will stay in Buffalo

BUFFALO – Sabres defenseman Nikita Zadorov is staying put. Coach Ted Nolan said Monday the 19-year-old Russian has earned a roster spot.

After playing seven straight games, including a 25-minute outing Thursday, it was assumed the Sabres would keep him.

“I try not to assume, but I’m more than positive he’s earned his keep,” Nolan said inside the First Niagara Center.

Video: Tommy Wingels hits Sabres captain Brian Gionta

So, umm, there were no penalties called on the play below.

Even Sabres winger Torrey Mitchell, who jumped the San Jose Sharks’ Tommy Wingels after he knocked captain Brian Gionta head-first into the boards early in today’s game, escaped unscathed.

How can that scary hit go unpenalized? Would something have been called if Wingels hit a star player?

Luckily, Gionta got up and returned to the game later in the period.

Amerks acquire Nick Petrecki on loan from Sharks

With veteran defenseman and captain Drew Bagnall out for the season, the Rochester Americans today acquired Nick Petrecki on loan from the San Jose Sharks.

The 24-year-old Petrecki has one goal, three points and 54 penalty minutes with the AHL Worchester Sharks this season. The defenseman played one NHL game with San Jose last season.

Petrecki, 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, has eight goals, 46 points and 531 penalty minutes in 277 career AHL games. The ... Read the full article

Goalie Ryan Miller and captain Steve Ott missing from Sabres warm-up

BUFFALO – Goalie Ryan Miller and captain Steve Ott aren’t on the ice for the Sabres’ warm-up prior to tonight’s game against the San Jose Sharks.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Miller has likely has been traded to the Blues.

Jhonas Enroth is the lone goalie dressed.

Former Sabre Kennedy back in NHL with Sharks

South Buffalo native and former Sabres forward Tim Kennedy returned to the NHL on Tuesday, skating 15:33 in the San Jose Sharks’ 1-0 overtime loss in Nashville.

Kennedy had been dominating the AHL, compiling 13 goals and 37 points in 37 games with Worchester.

The 26-year-old last played in the big leagues on Jan. 5, 2012 with the Florida Panthers.
