ROCHESTER – Three goals from captain Michael Mersch, more than the Americans had in their first two playoff games. Buffalo Sabres center prospect Brandon Biro underwent season-ending surgery over the weekend to repair a lower-body injury, Americans coach Seth Appert said.

“That’s unfortunate, because what a great season he had,” he told reporters Tuesday in Rochester.

Despite playing just 49 games this season, Biro’s 16 goals ranked fourth on the Amerks and his 51 points trailed only Lukas Rousek’s 56 points.

Why did the Sabres have such a poor home record in Buffalo?

BUFFALO – General manager Kevyn Adams has a theory on the Sabres’ home woes this season.

“I feel I’ve asked enough questions that I have a handle on this,” he said during Wednesday’s end-of-season news conference.

The Sabres compiled a ghastly 17-20-4 mark at KeyBank Center. Only four NHL teams – the Anaheim Ducks, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets and San Jose Sharks – earned fewer home wins. The Montreal Canadiens equaled the Sabres’ meager ... Read the full article

In his native Sweden, Cederqvist said, you’re not allowed to box out.

ROCHESTER – The silver medal Buffalo Sabres prospect Jiri Kulich recently earned at the World Junior Championship hasn’t changed his life much.

Of course, Kulich, 18, is proud to have scored the overtime goal against Sweden to send Czechia to its first gold medal game since 2001. But following what he called an “unbelievable” experience, he simply resumed his rookie season with the Americans.
