Sabres injury updates: Jason Zucker could miss start of season after surgery

BUFFALO – Sabres winger Jason Zucker underwent offseason sports hernia surgery and could miss the first two weeks of the regular season, general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said Wednesday after players reported to training camp.

“He’s very close to the start of the year,” Kekalainen said in LECOM Harborcenter.

The Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday assigned four prospects – defenseman David Bedkowski, goalie Samuel Meloche and forwards Dylan Dumont and Doman Szongoth – to their respective junior teams.

All four participated in the Prospects Showcase games the Sabres played against the Boston Bruins on Sunday and Monday at LECOM Harborcenter.

Defenseman Radim Mrtka, the ninth overall pick in 2025, headlines the Buffalo Sabres’ 22-man roster for the upcoming Prospects Showcase against the Boston Bruins at LECOM Harborcenter.

Sabres to open 2026-27 season Oct. 1 in Columbus, start home schedule Oct. 3 versus Chicago

The Buffalo Sabres will open the 2026-27 season Oct. 1 on the road against the Columbus Blue Jackets and hold their home opener Oct. 3 versus old friend Bowen Byram and the Chicago Blackhawks at KeyBank Center.

Former Buffalo Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams is back in the NHL.

The Boston Bruins on Tuesday named Adams, 51, a senior advisor to GM Don Sweeney.

The Buffalo Sabres have added to their front office by hiring John Davidson, a popular former goalie and broadcaster who has spent most of the past 20 years working as a president of hockey operations, as a senior advisor, the team announced Monday.
