Sabres’ Zach Benson still injured, could miss another game; Rasmus Dahlin set to return from Olympics

BUFFALO – Sabres winger Zach Benson will likely miss Wednesday’s road game against the New Jersey Devils with an undisclosed injury, coach Lindy Ruff said.

Benson, 20, hasn’t played or practiced since crashing into the boards and suffering an upper-body injury Feb. 2. Right now, however, Ruff said the youngster is battling a different injury.

Sabres recall defenseman from Amerks

BUFFALO – The Sabres this morning recalled rookie defenseman Zach Metsa, who returned to the AHL during the Olympic break, from the Rochester Americans.

Metsa, 27, played two games during the break, his first appearances with the Amerks since early December. After being summoned that month, he enjoyed semi-regular duty with the Sabres, often skating short minutes on the third defense pair.

When will Rasmus Dahlin return to the Sabres following the Olympics?

BUFFALO – The Sabres expect captain Rasmus Dahlin to return to the team on Sunday or Monday following his stint representing Team Sweden at the Olympics.

Dahlin, 25, registered one goal and five points in five games during the Milano Cortina Games. Wednesday’s 2-1 overtime loss to Team USA in the quarterfinals eliminated Sweden from the tournament.

BUFFALO – In the near future, Sabres goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and winger Zach Benson, both of whom were injured prior to the Olympic break, could start practicing again, coach Lindy Ruff said.
