BUFFALO – In each of the last two seasons, goalie Devon Levi cracked the NHL roster out of training camp only to be demoted by the Sabres in November.

While the Sabres occasionally recalled Levi, 23, he mostly stayed in Rochester, emerging as the Americans’ backbone and one of the AHL’s elite netminders.

Sabres don’t extend qualifying offers to Jacob Bernard-Docker, three others

BUFFALO – The Sabres on Monday did not extend an $866,250 qualifying offer to defenseman Jacob Bernard-Docker, making him a free agent.

They extended qualifying offers to goalie Devon Levi, defensemen Bowen Byram, Ryan Johnson and Conor Timmins and forwards Tyson Kozak and Ryan McLeod.

Byram, Johnson, McLeod and Timmins all have arbitration rights. Bernard-Docker had them before the Sabres did not qualify him.

ORCHARD PARK – Five years ago, NHL Draft prospect Haoxi “Simon” Wang took a life-changing risk, leaving his family in China to pursue a hockey career in Toronto.

Strong rookie season with Rochester earns Sabres pick Konsta Helenius spot on AHL’s Top Prospects Team

A strong rookie season in which forward Konsta Helenius scored 14 goals and 35 points in 65 games for the Rochester Americans has earned the Finn spot on the AHL’s 2024-25 Top Prospects Team.

BUFFALO – In their first weeks as teammates with Djurgardens, a second-division pro team in Sweden, NHL Draft prospects Anton Frondell and Victor Eklund skated on separate lines.

Scott Metcalfe, Amerks Hall of Famer who played for Sabres, dies at 58

Scott Metcalfe, a popular and gritty forward who played nine seasons for the Rochester Americans over two stints and 17 games with the Buffalo Sabres, died Friday morning, the AHL team announced. He was 58.

Metcalfe played for Rochester’s last Calder Cup championship team in 1996 and was inducted into the Amerks Hall of Fame in 2006.

Amerks’ Lukas Rousek leaves Sabres for Sweden; Rochester loses another player

Winger Lukas Rousek has left the Buffalo Sabres organization for the Swedish Hockey League.

HV71, a team based in Jönköping, today announced Rousek has signed a two-year contract. He was set to become a restricted free agent this offseason.

Rousek, 26, recently starred for the Rochester Americans during the Calder Cup Playoffs, scoring two goals and eight points in seven games before the Laval Rocket eliminated them Sunday.... Read the full article
