BUFFALO – Following one game serving as Alex Lyon’s backup, Sabres goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen said he will play again tonight against the St. Louis Blues, his second nod in the last three games but just his third this season.

As the Finn, 26, recently recovered from two lower-body injuries, Lyon, 32, emerged as the Sabres’ workhorse and early-season MVP.

Now, Luukkonen, fresh off Saturday’s stellar 31-save outing in which he stopped all five shootout attempts ... Read the full article

Alex Lyon, Noah Ostlund get Sabres to OT before losing to Mammoth

BUFFALO – On one hand, the Sabres’ penchant for taking games to overtime is encouraging. Every point is precious, and they’ve guaranteed themselves at least one in each of their last five games.

On the other, well, how about they start winning some of those contests?

The Sabres have lost just once in regulation in their last 10 outings, yet they’re 5-1-4 in that stretch.

On Tuesday, they fell 2-1 to the Utah Mammoth when ... Read the full article

BUFFALO – Center Noah Ostlund is back with the Sabres following a five-day stint in the minors.

The Sabres this morning recalled the prospect from the Rochester Americans because forwards Jiri Kulich and Jason Zucker are sick and out for tonight’s game against the Utah Mammoth at KeyBank Center.

Coach Lindy Ruff said Kulich, who has fluid in his ears, likely won’t play in Thursday’s home contest against the St. Louis Blues. Meanwhile, Ruff said ... Read the full article

BUFFALO – Two days before Sabres goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen’s splendid 33-save outing in Saturday’s 4-3 shootout win, coach Lindy Ruff acknowledged the Finn, having recently missed so much time, likely wasn’t ready to be a big difference-maker.

Luukkonen, who on Saturday made just his second NHL start this season and first in a week, has spent most of the last two months battling two lower-body injuries.

BUFFALO – The Sabres’ recent run – after Tuesday’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, they’ve earned points in six of their last seven games – illustrates the significant improvements they’ve made in the last two weeks.

Following their wretched 0-3-0 start, they’ve recovered and positioned themselves in the thick of things at 4-4-2.

BUFFALO – Right now, the Sabres want to err on the side of caution. Goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, having completed his AHL conditioning assignment, is healthy and ready to play.
