Upper-body injury to sideline Sabres Kyle Okposo ‘weeks’

BUFFALO – An upper-body injury will likely sideline Sabres winger Kyle Okposo “weeks,” coach Ralph Krueger said.

Krueger said while the Sabres don’t have an exact time period for Okposo, “we don’t expect him back here for a while.”

“I’d say it’s more in the weeks category,” Krueger said prior to this afternoon’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets inside KeyBank Center. “We’ll probably be confirming that later today after the game. I don’t just expect him in the near future, but also not the very long future.”

Okposo, 31, left Thursday’s 3-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens after playing only five shifts.

The American has adjusted well to more of a checking role this season, compiling five goals and 12 points in 40 games.

Update: The Sabres announced minutes before the game a lower-body injury will sideline defenseman Brandon Montour today. Lawrence Pilut will replace him.

Meanwhile, Krueger said defenseman Zach Bogosian, who’s sick, is “feeling a little bit better.”

Krueger said Bogosian will miss today’s game but plans to work out.

  1. too brittle and too old. Nice fellow and I wish him the best, but please BUY HIM OUT!

    1. When the Sabres acquired him I thought it was a good transaction, but he just hasn’t produced at the level he did with the Islanders. Overall the Sabres have overpaid for the level of performance the past few years. The team simply has way too much 3rd and 4th line level players. So, I totally agree, they should be looking to unload him, in spite of the fact he’s a decent guy.

      1. I agree with all the above comments ! Kyle is a great guy and positive locker room presence, but he just isn’t able to physically perform on a consistent basis that is needed for this team’s success !
The handwriting is on the wall ! For his own and the team’s good, he needs to retire as difficult as that may be !Shalom ! Pat Ipolito
