Sabres recall prospect from Rochester, send forward back to Amerks

Center Noah Ostlund has returned to Buffalo Sabres following a one-game stint with the Rochester Americans.

The Sabres this afternoon recalled the prospect and assigned winger Trevor Kuntar, who made his NHL debut in Thursday’s 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks, back to the AHL club.

The Sabres close their six-game road trip Sunday against the Seattle Kraken.

Ostlund, 21, briefly returned to the Amerks so the Sabres could summon rookie Zach Metsa to serve as an extra defenseman.

Players sent to the AHL must play one game before being recalled again, so Ostlund dressed for Wednesday’s 6-1 road win over the Belleville Senators, scoring one goal and three points for Rochester.

The Swede earned regular duty with the Sabres for one month before spending most of this week with the Amerks. Over two stints with the Sabres this season, he has compiled three goals and six points in 20 games.

Kuntar, 24, joined the Sabres on Tuesday after signing a two-way NHL contract. The Williamsville native has enjoyed a breakout season with the Amerks, registering a team-high nine goals and 13 points in 24 contests.

  1. Ostlund should never have been sent down in the first place.
Send Krebs down or waive him.
