BUFFALO – The Sabres have re-signed forward C.J. Smith, one of the AHL’s top rookies last season, to a one-year, two-way deal, the team announced today.
The contract is worth $874,125 at the NHL level.
Winger Sam Reinhart is now the Sabres’ only unsigned restricted free agent.
After playing two games with the Sabres late in 2016-17, Smith, 23, morphed into one of the Rochester Americans’ top scoring threats, compiling 17 goals and 44 points in 57 games in his first full pro campaign.
The Sabres signed the 5-foot-11, 181-pound Smith as an undrafted college free agent from UMass Lowell following his junior season.
