BUFFALO – Some quick updates from a quiet Sabres practice today at the First Niagara Center:
– Of all the injured players out long-term, winger Patrick Kaleta (lower body) has the best chance of returning this season, Sabres coach Ted Nolan said. Kaleta recently had surgery and hasn’t played since Feb. 10.
“I think if there’s one of them, that’s the guy you’d bet on,” Nolan said. “He’s come through some tough injuries. He’s battled hard to work himself back in there.”
– Nolan hasn’t ruled out center Zemgus Girgensons, sidelined since blocking a shot with his ankle Feb. 24, returning this season.
“I saw him this morning,” Nolan said. “It looked like he gained some weight. He looks healthy.”
– Captain Brian Gionta and wingers Tyler Ennis and Matt Moulson all had maintenance days from practice today following the Sabres’ 4-3 shootout loss in Toronto on Wednesday.
“All three of those guys had a lot of minutes last night,” Nolan said. “We need them fresh come game time.”
