Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin on tear, quietly becoming one of NHL’s top offensive threats

BUFFALO – At his current pace, captain Rasmus Dahlin would register 72 points over a full season, one less than his career high and the second-highest total by a Sabres defenseman in the last 35 years.

Pretty good, right? Well, consider Dahlin has scored nine goals and 46 points despite battling injuries from the get-go this season and missing eight games with back spasms in December.

Sabres’ Jordan Greenway has impact in return following surgery

BUFFALO – Fourteen seconds into his first shift in nine weeks, Sabres winger Jordan Greenway signaled he would be a factor all afternoon by knocking New York Rangers defenseman Braden Schneider into the boards.

“I’m always trying to find a way to get engaged,” Greenway said following the Sabres’ 8-2 win in KeyBank Center. “Typically for me, it’s playing physical, finishing hits. It’s the easiest way for me to get into the game. I felt ... Read the full article

Sabres score early in blowout win over Rangers; Alex Tuch leaves game injured

BUFFALO – The genesis of the Sabres’ five-goal, first-period outburst in Saturday afternoon’s 8-2 shellacking of the New York Rangers can be traced to their practice sessions earlier in the week.

When the Sabres reconvened Tuesday following a nine-day break for the 4 Nations Face-Off, coach Lindy Ruff began driving them hard, demanding pace. They practiced with purpose.

Their first two sessions were the longest of the season. After doing off-ice work Thursday, they had ... Read the full article

Sabres’ Rasmus Dahlin, Tage Thompson can use 4 Nations for extra Olympic motivation

BUFFALO – Four days after Team Sweden finished its run at the 4 Nations Face-Off, Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin was still feeling the sting of his country’s third-place finish.

The Swedes played well throughout the ultra-competitive tournament, losing twice in overtime and beating Team USA. Still, that offered Dahlin little consolation when he tuned into Thursday’s final between the US and Team Canada, a memorable game the Canadians won 3-2 in overtime.

Sabres notes: Mattias Samuelsson set to play after breaking bone in foot

BUFFALO – In his last outing on Feb. 2, Mattias Samuelsson blocked a shot, something he has done 55 times this season. This time, however, the puck hit the oft-injured Sabres defenseman in just the right spot, breaking a bone in his foot.

“So the foot just blew up,” Samuelsson said following Tuesday’s practice in KeyBank Center, his first session since going down. “I couldn’t really put it in my skate.”

Sabres injury updates: Tage Thompson skates, Dylan Cozens misses practice

BUFFALO – Sabres winger Tage Thompson, who left Sunday afternoon’s 4-3 win injured after New Jersey Devils pest Stefan Noesen hit him in the head, skated on his own Wednesday morning, coach Lindy Ruff said.

“Had a good day,” Ruff said following Wednesday’ practice in KeyBank Center. “I mean, he’s got to go through the protocol, the testing, all that stuff. But really felt good, so encouraged.”

In other injury news, Ruff said goalie Ukko-Pekka ... Read the full article

Jordan Greenway skates with Sabres, happy to be healthy

BUFFALO – After playing Dec. 15 in Toronto, Sabres winger Jordan Greenway finally had enough. Instead of trying to play through the discomfort, he decided to undergo surgery to repair his mid-body injury.

Greenway, 27, wasn’t just gutting things out.

“Other things, I would say, started to be impacted,” Greenway said after participating in this morning’s optional pregame skate in KeyBank Center. “It was almost just going to be maybe sort of a domino effect. ... Read the full article

Sabres’ Jordan Greenway feeling well, close to practicing again

BUFFALO – Sabres winger Jordan Greenway, who has missed the last 18 games after undergoing surgery to repair a mid-body injury, could start practicing soon, coach Lindy Ruff said.

“He’s been doing good,” Ruff said following Monday’s practice. “He’s been skating. Again, skated this morning. I mean, this is just me, I haven’t talked to our medical guys, but with the reports I’ve been getting, I anticipate him getting back into practice in the near ... Read the full article

Jiri Kulich’s return from injury will force Sabres to make lineup changes

BUFFALO – In rookie Jiri Kulich’s absence, the Sabres have filled some of the void by moving forwards around and recalling Tyson Kozak.

Kulich, who has been recovering from a lower-body injury, missed his fourth game Friday, a 5-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

When the Czech center is ready to play – he’s on track to return Monday afternoon against the Seattle Kraken, the start of a four-game road trip – Sabres coach Lindy ... Read the full article

Injury gave Sabres’ Mattias Samuelsson chance to reset mentally, find game

BUFFALO – Looking back on it, Sabres defenseman Mattias Samuelsson considers the lower-body injury he suffered earlier this season to be a blessing in disguise.

A few months ago, Samuelsson, 24, acknowledged he was “just in my head about a lot of things.”

“Worrying about things we can’t control,” he told the Times Herald following Thursday’s practice in KeyBank Center. “When you’re like that, you’re obviously not playing your best and not playing free.”... Read the full article
