BUFFALO – The Sabres on Friday assigned center Tyson Jost to the Rochester Americans after he cleared waivers.
Jost, 25, hasn’t played in the AHL since an eight-game stint with the Colorado Eagles in 2018-19. He has made just 13 appearances in the minors since turning pro in 2017.
The Sabres on Friday also activated center Tage Thompson from the non-roster list and sent rookie defenseman Ryan Johnson to the Amerks in a paper transaction and later recalled him.
Thompson, whose wife, Rachel, gave birth earlier this week, practiced Friday in LECOM Harborcenter. He missed Wednesday’s 4-1 home loss to the Boston Bruins.
Right now, the Sabres have a full 23-man roster. If they want to activate winger Zemgus Girgensons from injured reserve before this afternoon’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets at KeyBank Center, they must make another move.
Granato said there’s a “good chance” Girgensons, out the last 16 games with a lower-body injury, will return against Columbus.
Notes: Based on lines and defense combos during Friday’s practice, winger Victor Olofsson could be scratched today and defenseman Henri Jokiharju could return after sitting out the last three games as a healthy scratch. … Granato swapped defensemen on the power-play Friday, moving Owen Power to the top unit and Rasmus Dahlin to the second. Granato said he has liked the second unit’s performance and plans to use it more. … The Sabres on Friday assigned forward prospect Olivier Nadeau from the Amerks to the Jacksonville Icemen, their ECHL affiliate. Nadeau, 20, has been a healthy scratch most of his rookie season.
