A strong rookie season in which forward Konsta Helenius scored 14 goals and 35 points in 65 games for the Rochester Americans has earned the Finn spot on the AHL’s 2024-25 Top Prospects Team.
Despite being the AHL’s youngest regular player, Helenius, who turned 19 on May 11, ranked fifth on the Amerks in goals and eighth in points. He made an impact in the Calder Cup Playoffs, scoring three goals and six points in eight outings.
He also won a silver medal for Team Finland at the World Junior Championship in January.
The Buffalo Sabres selected Helenius 14th overall in 2024.
The Top Prospects Team – three forwards, two defensemen and one goalie – is determined by the AHL’s hockey operations department in conjunction with the league’s general managers.
To be considered, skaters must have been 22 or younger on the first day of the regular season, and have played a minimum of 36 regular-season games in the AHL this year and no more than 30 in the NHL.
Center Jiri Kulich, who spent most of 2024-25 with the Sabres, earned a spot on the team in each of the last two seasons.
The rest of the team announced Wednesday is below.
– Forward Dalibor Dvorsky, Springfield Thunderbirds
– Forward Bradly Nadeau, Chicago Wolves
– Defenseman Logan Mailloux, Laval Rocket
– Defenseman Scott Morrow, Chicago Wolves
– Goalie Jet Greaves, Cleveland Monsters
