Rochester Americans center Phil Varone, who’s on recall to the Buffalo Sabres, has been named to the AHL All-Star Game, the league announced today.
Varone has enjoyed another strong AHL season, compiling eight goals and a team-high 29 points in 35 games with the Amerks.
The 24-year-old is set to make his NHL season debut tonight in New Jersey.
Two former Sabres also earned spots in the game. Hershey Bears forward Tim Kennedy, a South Buffalo native, has 27 points in 34 games. Rockford IceHogs defenseman T.J. Brennan has 28 points in 36 contests.
Update: Sabres prospect and Williamsville native Justin Bailey, the 52nd pick in 2013, has been traded from the Ontario Hockey League’s Kitchener Rangers to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds for center David Miller, second-round picks in 2016 and 2018, a third-round selection in 2015 and a conditional third-round pick in 2018.
Bailey, a winger, has 22 goals and 41 points in 35 games this season.
