Rochester signs Sabres goalie prospect Scott Ratzlaff to amateur tryout

The Rochester Americans on Wednesday signed Buffalo Sabres goalie prospect Scott Ratzlaff to an amateur tryout.

Ratzlaff’s junior team, the Seattle Thunderbirds, did not qualify for the Western Hockey League playoffs.

Right now, the Amerks need another goalie. The Sabres recently recalled rookie Devon Levi. Meanwhile, veteran Dustin Tokarski did not play over the weekend after battling through an undisclosed problem in last Wednesday’s 6-5 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Update: Tokarski came off the bench early in tonight’s road game against the Syracuse Crunch after Michael Houser suffered an injury.

The Amerks recently signed two goalies to tryouts to serve as their backup. Veteran Michael Houser started both of their weekend games.

Ratzlaff, 19, compiled a 21-26-1 record with a 3.33 goals-against average, a .905 save percentage and one shutout in a career-high 52 games this season.

The Sabres drafted the 6-foot-1, 175-pound Ratzlaff in the fifth round in 2023, 141st overall.
