BUFFALO – Veteran Alexandar Georgiev, who earlier this week cleared waivers, is one four goalies on Rochester Americans’ season-opening roster.
Devon Levi, Topias Leinonen and Scott Ratzlaff are the Amerks’ other netminders.
Georgiev, 29, hasn’t played in the AHL since an 11-game stint with the Hartford Wolf Pack in 2018-19. He signed a one-year, one-way contract last month.
The Amerks open their season tonight against the Toronto Marlies in Blue Cross Arena.
Update: Amerks coach Mike Leone said following tonight’s 4-3 win that Georgiev will join the AHL affiliate Monday.
In other news, the Sabres, who lost center Josh Norris to an upper body in Thursday’s 4-0 loss to the New York Rangers, this morning recalled center Josh Dunne from the Amerks.
Stay tuned for updates.
Update: coach Lindy Ruff said following this afternoon’s practice in LECOM Harborcenter that Norris was seeing doctors and the Sabres would know more later today.
He said Norris will miss Saturday’s road game against the Boston Bruins.
In other injury news, Ruff said winger Zach Benson will be discharged from the hospital today after being admitted Wednesday, hours after a puck cut his face in practice.
Ruff said Benson won’t play in Boston but could resume skating Saturday. He believes he could return Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Ruff said defenseman Owen Power, who missed Thursday’s opener because of illness, is feeling better and will likely accompany the Sabres and be available to play.
