Williamsville’s Trevor Kuntar agrees to AHL contract with Rochester Amerks

Williamsville native Trevor Kuntar has joined the Rochester Americans.

The Buffalo Sabres’ AHL affiliate on Thursday announced it has agreed to terms with Kuntar, a forward, and defenseman Peter Tischke on one-year AHL contracts.

Kuntar, 24, spent his first two pro seasons with the Providence Bruins, Boston’s AHL affiliate. Boston did not give him a qualifying offer last month, making him a free agent.

The 6-foot, 205-pound Kuntar has compiled 13 goals, 32 points and 189 penalty minutes in 124 career AHL games.

After registering 10 goals and 20 points in 70 games as a rookie, he recorded three goals and 12 points in 54 outings last season.

Boston drafted him in the third round in 2020, 89th overall.

Kuntar played three seasons for Boston College and developed in the Jr. Sabres organization as a teenager.

His father, Les, a former goalie, played six games for the Montreal Canadiens in 1993-94 and 21 contests with the Amerks in 1996-97.

The 6-foot-1, 224-pound Tischke, 29 spent last season with the Jacksonville Icemen, Rochester’s ECHL affiliate.

He registered two goals, eight points and 51 penalty minutes with the Amerks earlier in his career.
