Sabres prospect Lukas Rousek to make season debut with Buffalo

BUFFALO – When the Sabres recently placed winger Zach Benson and goalie Eric Comrie on injured reserve, they recalled two young forward prospects.

Brandon Biro, 25, rewarded the Sabres by scoring his first two NHL goals in Wednesday’s 5-2 road win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Biro will be joined by another rookie, Lukas Rousek, 24, in tonight’s lineup against the Flyers.

“It’s an opportunity for us to see what we have in our organization and two guys that were real good through camp and have been progressively real good in Rochester,” Sabres coach Don Granato said this morning in KeyBank Center. “So now is that window of opportunity to get a greater look at what we have depth-wise in our organization.”

As the youngsters earn a look, winger Victor Olofsson will likely sit out his third straight game tonight as a healthy scratch. Winger Tyson Jost is also expected to be scratched.

Rousek played his first two NHL games late last season, scoring one goal and two points in his debut.

“It’s feeling more comfortable because I played the last couple games last year, and I know how it feels to play in the NHL,” he said.

The Czech has recorded two goals and six points in eight games with the Rochester Americans this season.

In other lineup news, winger Alex Tuch, who had a maintenance day Thursday, said he will play tonight. Goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, fresh off two wins earlier this week, is expected to start.
