Sabres prospect Devon Levi registers first pro shutout with Rochester

You must go back 74 games, to Devon Levi’s sophomore season in college, to find the last time the Rochester Americans goalie posted a shutout before his 20-save effort in Friday’s 3-0 win over the Syracuse Crunch.

On Feb. 25, 2023, Levi made 32 saves in Northeastern’s 4-0 win over Massachusetts, recording the 16th and final shutout for of his 66-game career with the Huskies.

Yes, the Buffalo Sabres prospect really blanked his opponents in 24.3 percent of his appearances for Northeastern. He was a dominant college netminder.

“It’s been a while,” Levi said of his last shutout to reporters Friday in Rochester. “You try not to look at outcomes too much and hold onto them and let yourself feel good because of them. But this one definitely feels good. But just try to enjoy it a little bit and put it behind us.”

He had light workload early against Syracuse in Blue Cross Arena, facing only seven shots in the opening 40 minutes.

Levi, who turned pro in March 2023, has played 37 games for the Sabres and 35 contests for the Amerks, including five appearances in the Calder Cup Playoffs last season.

Since the Sabres assigned him to the AHL on Nov. 18, he has registered a 2-1-1 record with a 2.45 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage in four games.

Levi, 22, allowed nine total goals in his two outings before Friday’s game.

The Amerks play this afternoon in Syracuse.

Update: Levi made 13 saves and stopped all four shootout attempts Saturday as the Amerks erased a 2-0 deficit and beat the Crunch 3-2.

Levi is now 3-1-1 with a 2.33 goals-against average and an .896 save percentage in five games with the Amerks this season.
