Buffalo Sabres center prospect Brandon Biro underwent season-ending surgery over the weekend to repair a lower-body injury, Americans coach Seth Appert said.
“That’s unfortunate, because what a great season he had,” he told reporters Tuesday in Rochester.
Despite playing just 49 games this season, Biro’s 16 goals ranked fourth on the Amerks and his 51 points trailed only Lukas Rousek’s 56 points.
Biro, 25, left the lineup in mid-March and returned April 5 before exiting again. He ended the season on a hot streak, scoring seven goals and 20 points in his final 12 games. In March, he had a hat trick and a five-point outing.
In other news, Appert said rookie forward Jiri Kulich, out since suffering a lower-body April 15, is probable to make his Calder Cup Playoffs debut Friday against the Syracuse Crunch in Rochester. The Amerks trail the best-of-five series 2-0.
Kulich, 19, had a full practice Tuesday. The Czech, the 28th overall pick last year, scored a team-high 24 goals this season.
