BUFFALO – Cody McCormick escaped without even a cut when Eric Fehr’s skate hit the Sabres forward on the chin Nov. 22 in Washington.
“Watching the replay, it was pretty close,” McCormick said this morning inside the First Niagara Center. “I consider myself lucky coming out of that without a cut on my face.”
Fehr’s skate still injured McCormick. The 31-year-old has been undergoing concussion protocol.
McCormick, the Sabres’ top fighter, has a history of concussions.
Is he worried?
“Not really, actually,” McCormick said. “If I go out there and think I’m going to get hurt, I think that’s probably when you do get hurt. I don’t keep that in my mind when I’m playing.”
McCormick skated fully this morning on the fourth line. But he’s still not ready, so the Sabres placed him on injured reserve this afternoon and recalled center Tim Schaller from Rochester to play against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
