Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin named NHL Second Team All-Star, earns Hart Trophy votes

Buffalo Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin on Friday was named an NHL Second Team All-Star for the first time in his eight-year career.

Dahlin, Buffalo’s captain, registered some gaudy numbers this season, scoring 19 goals and a career-high 74 points and in 77 games as the Sabres earned their first berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2011.

The Sabres defeated the Boston Bruins in the first round before falling to the Montreal Canadiens in a seven-game Eastern Conference semifinal.

Dahlin received 451 points, including 34 first-place votes, finishing fourth in the balloting among defensemen behind Zach Werenski, Cale Makar and Evan Bouchard.

The winner was decided through a vote by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association.

Dahlin, 26, was also a finalist for two awards, the Norris Trophy and Masterton trophies, finishing third and second, respectively.

The Swede also placed ninth in the Hart Trophy voting, earning 16 points. Sabres center Tage Thompson finished tied for 18th in the Hart voting, registering two points.
