The Buffalo Sabres today sent defenseman Dennis Gilbert back to the Rochester Americans.
The Buffalo native played five games during his recall, compiling one goal, two points and six penalty minutes.
He played four contests with the Amerks earlier this season, registering zero points and six penalty minutes.
Assigning Gilbert, 30, to the AHL could mean one or both of the Sabres’ injured defensemen – Matt Grzelcyk and Conor Timmins – are ready to play.
Grzelcyk and Timmins each suffered lower-body injuries earlier this season.
The Sabres closed their four-game road trip Saturday afternoon by defeating the Los Angeles Kings 3-2.
They have today off and are scheduled to practice Monday at KeyBank Center. They begin a four-game home stand Wednesday against the Ottawa Senators.
