Here’s Dan Hickling, our ace photographer, on capturing Nathan Lieuwen’s big glove save on the legendary Jaromir Jagr in Tuesday’s dramatic 3-2 shootout win against the New Jersey Devils, the rookie’s first NHL win.
Take it away, Dan …
Jaromir Jagr will be a certain first ballot Hall of Famer once his number finally does come up. He began his storied NHL career way back in 1990, which was one year before Sabres rookie goaltender Nathan Lieuwen was born. None of that mattered to Lieuwen during one brief flurry during the third period of Buffalo’s 3-2 shootout win over New Jersey. Jagr, who has fashioned 705 NHL goals to date, was denied by Lieuwen on this bid for No. 706, a goal that might have saved the Devils from suffering their 11th shootout loss (in 11 attempts).
