Buffalo Sabres coach Lindy Ruff told reporters this morning in Boston that center Josh Norris will miss “a significant amount of time” after suffering an upper-body injury in Thursday’s season-opening loss to the New York Rangers.
“I don’t know what that amount is for sure,” Ruff said prior to tonight’s game against the Bruin in TD Garden.
Ruff said Norris, who was injured taking a faceoff late in the 4-0 loss, is still being evaluated.
Norris, 26, has a history of injuries, having battled shoulder problems for years with the Ottawa Senators. After arriving in Buffalo last season, he played just three games before an oblique injury ended his season.
Ruff said Norris’ latest injury isn’t related to anything he has experienced in the past.
In other news, Ruff said winger Zach Benson, who was hospitalized Wednesday after suffering a cut in practice, has been discharged. Ruff believes Benson could play Wednesday when the Sabres host the Ottawa Senators.
Meanwhile, Ruff said defenseman Owen Power, who missed Thursday’s game because of illness, could play tonight.
Update: The Sabres today assigned goalie prospect Scott Ratlzlaff from the Rochester Americans to the Jacksonville Icemen, their ECHL affiliate.
