Winger Jason Zucker, the Buffalo Sabres’ oldest and most experienced player, will “miss some time” after suffering a lower-body injury in Monday’s 7-4 road loss to the Calgary Flames, coach Lindy Ruff told WGR this morning.
Zucker, 33, appeared to be injured when he hit an opponent into the boards in the second period. He briefly left the game but later returned.
His injury is the latest blow for the reeling Sabres, who have lost the first three contests of their six-game road trip. They play the Edmonton Oilers tonight.
The Sabres struggled when the veteran missed eight games last month battling an illness, compiling a 2-5-1 record.
After returning, Zucker went on a tear, compiling five goals and 11 points in nine outings before getting injured.
Overall, he has scored nine goals, including a team-high five on the power play, and 18 points in 21 games this season.
The Sabres could recall a forward to replace Zucker. Winger Isak Rosen, 22, did not practice today with the Rochester Americans.
Update: Rosen has been recalled. Zucker has been placed on injured reserve.
The Swedish prospect recently scored three goals and seven points during a 10-game run with the Sabres, his most successful stint in the NHL.
Right now, the Sabres have one extra forward, Josh Dunne.
Update: Center Josh Norris was a late scratch after warming up prior to tonight’s game. Dunne moved into the lineup.
Stay tuned for updates.
