The Buffalo Sabres on Monday traded the rights to unsigned forward prospect Stiven Sardarian to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for future considerations.
Sardarian, who has played the last four seasons in the NCAA, was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent Saturday. The Russian, however, did not submit paperwork to NHL Central Registry indicating he is no longer an undergraduate student, according to Puckpedia.com.
He will remain on a reserve list until paperwork is filed, according to Puckpedia.com
Sardarian, a third-round pick in 2021, 88th overall, was the third of four Russians the Sabres drafted in 2021. So far, zero have played in the NHL.
He played two seasons for the University of New Hampshire before spending the last two years at Michigan Tech University.
The 6-foot-2, 187-pound Sardarian registered career-high offensive totals across the board last season, recording 12 goals, 35 assists and 44 points in 37 games.
His assist and point totals both led the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, helping him earn conference forward of the year and first team all-star honors.
