The Buffalo Sabres this morning sent center Tyson Kozak back to the Rochester Americans following a three-game stint.
Kozak, 21, looked impressive in his first taste of the NHL, scoring one goal. He also had another goal disallowed in his debut Thursday.
“It was a good showing,” Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said following this afternoon’s practice. “I thought last night a little bit defensively he got run. … His first game, almost a model game defensively for a first game, which you don’t usually expect. But, I mean, a great two games, really, for a young man who’s just stepping in.”
Assigning the prospect to the AHL creates a roster spot so defenseman Mattias Samuelsson can return from a lower-body injury.
Kozak has registered five goals and six points in 14 games with the Amerks this season.
The Sabres drafted him in the seventh round in 2021, 193rd overall.
The Amerks play a road game Wednesday against the Laval Rocket.
