Sabres send two players to Rochester, set 23-man roster

The Buffalo Sabres on Monday finalized their 23-man regular-season roster by loaning defenseman Kale Clague and winger Lukas Rousek to the Rochester Americans after they cleared waivers, and placing winger Nicolas Aube-Kubel on injured reserve.

Right now, the Sabres have 13 forwards, eight defensemen and two goalies. For the time being at least, rookie forward Jiri Kulich, who played his second NHL game Saturday, has a spot.

The Sabres lost three forwards – Aube-Kubel (lower body), JJ Peterka (concussion) and Zach Benson (lower body) – to injuries in their back-to-back losses over the weekend in Prague, Czechia. Benson and Peterka are still on the roster.

Earlier Monday, the Anaheim Ducks claimed goalie James Reimer off waivers from the Sabres.

The Sabres were allowed to bring 27 players overseas to open the regular season. They play their first home game Thursday against the Los Angeles Kings at KeyBank Center.

After flying home Saturday, the Sabres had a CBA-mandated day off Monday.
