Sabres recall goalie prospect Devon Levi from Rochester

DETROIT – Rookie goalie Devon Levi is back with the Buffalo Sabres.

The Sabres on Saturday recalled Levi, 22, from the Rochester Americans following their 4-1 loss to the Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena.

Levi, who has played 20 games for the Sabres this season, is expected to start Monday in Seattle against the Kraken or Tuesday in Vancouver versus Canucks.

Sabres goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has played four straight games and 24 of the last 27.

The Sabres, who are battling for a wild card spot, have used backup goalie Eric Comrie just once in the last 15 games. Comrie has a 1-7-0 record this season.

When Luukkonen’s emergence pushed Levi to the minors again in January, he seized his chance, establishing himself as perhaps the best goalie prospect in the AHL.

After beginning the season as the Sabres’ starter, Levi has compiled an 11-5-3 record with a 2.52 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage in 19 games with the Amerks over three stints.

With Buffalo, he has registered a 9-7-2 mark with a 3.30 goals-against average and an .891 save percentage.

  1. UPL should start this must-win game. He has clearly established himself as one of the best goalies in the NHL.
