BUFFALO – Sabres defenseman Owen Power knows the lower-body injury he suffered in last Saturday’s 3-2 shootout loss to the Florida Panthers could’ve been a lot worse.
Power, who’s sporting a brace on his left knee and using crutches to get around, said he will need about two months to recover.
He recently sought out a second opinion and learned he won’t need surgery.
Power missed the final three games of the season after Panthers center Carter Verhaeghe fell on him, causing his left ankle to bend awkwardly as he went down to the ice.
“The ankle’s fine,” Power said Saturday as the Sabres held end-of-season interviews in KeyBank Center. “Watch the video, and it looks like it could’ve been a couple things, but luckily it was only one thing.
“It was just kind of an unfortunate play. The guy fell on my leg, and I fell awkwardly with that, so kind of bad luck, but luckily it was only one thing.”
Power, 22, tested the injury on the ice during a break in the action but departed the game.
“It honestly, in the moment, didn’t feel horrible,” he said. “It’s really certain movements that will really catch it, but it wasn’t horrible. I went and saw the doctor and they had an idea of what it was and suggested that it wouldn’t be smart to go back out.”
