Sabres’ Jiri Kulich injured in practice, status for road trip uncertain

BUFFALO – Sabres center Jiri Kulich was seeing the doctor this afternoon after a puck hit him in the face during a power-play drill early in today’s practice, coach Lindy Ruff said.

“It didn’t look good, but I don’t have an update,” Ruff said following the session in KeyBank Center.

Kulich, 22, left a pool of blood in the slot after staying down for several moments and being helped off the ice.

If Kulich can’t accompany the Sabres on their four-game road trip, which starts Saturday against the Washington Capitals, they will likely recall a forward.

Right now, Sam Carrick and Justin Danforth are also injured. Losing Kulich would leave them without an extra forward.

In other news, Ruff said he wasn’t sure if goalie Alex Lyon, who has been sidelined all season with a left shoulder injury, would travel with the Sabres today.

Lyon recently suffered a setback in his recovery.
