Sabres’ Jack Eichel to have hearing with NHL following hit

Buffalo Sabres captain Jack Eichel will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety today for his illegal check to forward Carl Soderberg’s head Saturday afternoon.

Update: Eichel has been suspended two games.

Eichel, 22, was penalized two minutes for the hit 14:48 into the second period of the Sabres’ 3-0 loss to the Colorado Avalanche.

The NHL All-Star has no history of suspensions.

Earlier in the game, Avalanche defenseman Nikita Zadorov was penalized two minutes for hitting Eichel after the whistle.

  1. Sorry, that’s the biggest non-hit I’ve ever seen. The guy had his head down, looks a lot more like he ran into Eichel than the other way around. The refs weren’t on top of things the whole game. The late hit by Zadarov on Eichel that smashed his head into the boards was way more egregious. That hit is what there should be a hearing on.
