The Buffalo Sabres this afternoon activated winger Zach Benson from injured reserve and sent rookie center Anton Wahlberg back to the Rochester Americans.
Benson, who missed the last four games, is expected to play tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning as the Sabres close a three-game road trip.
He hasn’t played since suffering an upper-body injury when he crashed into the boards Feb. 2 in Florida.
Ruff recently said Benson, 20, was battling another upper-body injury, which the youngster told reporters Friday was a “viral thing.”
He has registered seven goals, 26 points and a plus-16 rating in 42 games this season.
Meanwhile, Wahlberg, 20, did not play after earning his first recall to the NHL on Tuesday.
The prospect has quietly enjoyed a strong season with the Amerks, compiling six goals, 25 points and a team-high plus-12 rating in 47 games.
The Sabres drafted the Swede in the second round in 2023, 39th overall.
