BUFFALO – Sabres center Josh Dunne was evaluated Tuesday for a mid-body injury and “may miss a little bit of time,” coach Lindy Ruff said.
Ruff said Dunne wasn’t injured fighting Florida Panthers defenseman Donovan Sebrango in Monday’s 4-3 loss.
“It’s been something that has been bothering him a little bit,” he said following practice in KeyBank Center.
Meanwhile, Ruff said defenseman Michael Kesselring, who has missed the last five games with a high ankle sprain, “had a real good day” practicing Tuesday.
Kesselring, who has battled injuries all season, rejoined his teammates Saturday.
“I haven’t had any post-practice (information), but just evaluating his skating and some of that extra work we gave him, I thought this is the best he’s looked or the hardest he’s been able to go,” Ruff said.
Ruff said Kesselring likely won’t play Wednesday against the Philadelphia Flyers, the third contest of the Sabres’ five-game home stand.
“But I think he’s real close, for sure,” he said.
Meanwhile, defenseman Mattias Samuelsson practiced Tuesday after tripping over teammate Tage Thompson late in Monday’s game and landing hard on his right side.
“A little banged up, but, yeah, I’ll be fine,” Samuelsson said.
In other news, Ruff said defenseman Bowen Byram missed Tuesday’s session for personal reasons but will be back Wednesday.
