PITTSBURGH – In his last three outings – one relief appearance followed by two straight starts – Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has looked more the like the goalie the Buffalo Sabres expected to be their starter this season.
Entering tonight’s game against the Penguins, Luukkonen has compiled a 2-1-0 record with a 2.43 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage during that stretch.
After two injuries stymied him earlier this season, it appears the Finn, who will likely start again tonight, has finally found a groove.
“I think for the most part, that’s what it was,” coach Lindy Ruff said this morning following the Sabres’ optional skate in PPG Paints Arena. “I mean, lack of playing time and getting through injury, sometimes it takes some time.”
Luukkonen, 26, hasn’t started three straight games this season.
Check back for update on the Sabres, who have won two straight games and four of their last five outings. They haven’t won three consecutive games this season.
