BUFFALO – Sabres winger Zach Benson will likely miss Wednesday’s road game against the New Jersey Devils with an undisclosed injury, coach Lindy Ruff said.
Benson, 20, hasn’t played or practiced since crashing into the boards and suffering an upper-body injury Feb. 2. Right now, however, Ruff said the youngster is battling a different injury.
Ruff said the Sabres will have more information Monday on Benson, who’s “doing OK” and has been skating on his own.
“He had some work up done on him,” Ruff said following Sunday’s practice in LECOM Harborcenter. “We’re hoping that we get positive news. I was in yesterday (on a day off) and talked to him, and he’s physically feeling good. He’s just got another issue he’s dealing with we’re trying to get him through.”
Ruff said Benson could return this weekend on the road – the Sabres play Friday against the Florida Panthers and Saturday versus the Tampa Bay Lightning – if they receive good news Monday.
In other news, Ruff said he expects captain Rasmus Dahlin, who recently represented Team Sweden at the Olympics, to practice Monday. The defenseman was scheduled to return Sunday from the Milano Cortina Games.
