Buffalo Sabres winger Nicolas Aube-Kubel suffered a lower-body in Friday’s 4-1 season-opening loss to the New Jersey Devils and will miss today’s rematch, coach Lindy Ruff told reporters in Prague, Czechia.
Ruff had no other update on Aube-Kubel. The newcomer was wearing a brace on his leg as he exited the dressing room following the game, according to The Buffalo News’ Lance Lysowski.
Aube-Kubel played 5 minutes, 45 seconds before leaving the contest in the second period. He began his Sabres career skating at right wing on the fourth line alongside center Sam Lafferty and Beck Malenstyn, two other offseason additions.
With Aube-Kubel out, center Peyton Krebs, a healthy scratch Friday, could move into the lineup.
What a pathetic performance. Sabres looked slow and got outplayed in every facet. They couldn’t string any passes together. They looked soft, just like last year. They had chances to score, but couldn’t finish. Cozens had several chances. Malenstyn deserves more ice time. I feel bad for the fans of Prague. No Kulich. Boring, uninspired effort by the Sabres. Lindy had to be embarrassed. Total disappointment.
