Report: Sabres sign Dennis Gilbert in free agency

BUFFALO – The Sabres this afternoon brought back a familiar face in free agency, agreeing to terms with defenseman Dennis Gilbert to a one-year, one-way contract worth $850,000, according to TSN’s Darren Dreger.

Right now, the Buffalo native likely ranks eighth on the Sabres’ depth chart.

Gilbert, 29, spent most of 2024-25 with the Sabres after signing as a free agent, registering five assists and 50 penalty minutes in 25 games.

The Sabres traded him to the Ottawa Senators that season in the Dylan Cozens-Josh Norris swap.

After signing with the Philadelphia Flyers last year, Gilbert began the season in the AHL before Ottawa reacquired him Nov. 17.

He spent most of the season in the minors, playing 31 games for the Belleville Senators and nine contests with Ottawa, including one in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
