LAS VEGAS – The Buffalo Sabres today traded the 11th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for the 14th and 42nd selections.
General manager Kevyn Adams said last week he was willing to deal the Sabres’ first pick.
The Sabres now have nine picks in this weekend’s draft, including the 42nd and 43rd picks in the second round.
The Sharks had acquired the 14th pick from the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Erik Karlsson trade.
Check back for updates. Adams is scheduled to talk to the media this afternoon.
Update: Adams believes the Sabres can still draft a prospect they like with the 14th pick.
“When we look at this year’s draft, we feel pretty strongly that after six or seven it’s really a wide range of where the names are gonna go. We felt it’s a real good value for us to make that deal. We really like the group of players we see ourselves potentially targeting at 14. We pick up an extra asset which is good value at pick 42, and then that’s certainly something that we’ll talk about.
“We’re actively shopping around to look and see if there’s a deal to make to help our roster better with pick 43. So this just gives us a little bit more ammunition.”
Great move. Deep draft. Grab Carter @ 14 if he’s there. Make the next trade(s) count.
