BUFFALO – Goalies Eric Comrie and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen have performed well in their first action this season, so the Sabres want to give rookie Devon Levi more time to recover from his lower-body injury.
Levi, who started the first four games, hasn’t played since last Thursday’s 4-3 loss to the Calgary Flames.
Sabres coach Don Granato said Levi, 21, is still experiencing soreness but hasn’t regressed.
“There’s no need to push him,” Granato said of Levi following Thursday’s practice in KeyBank Center. “We have three goalies, and that’s the luxury when it comes to this. But we’re waiting for some more soreness to resolve for him.”
Levi did not practice Thursday as the Sabres prepared for tonight’s road game against the New Jersey Devils.
Comrie has looked sharp in two starts, compiling a 2.05 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage. Luukkonen stopped 34 shots in Tuesday’s 6-4 road win over the Ottawa Senators.
