Phenom Connor McDavid has thought about playing for Sabres

BUFFALO – If you ask him, 17-year-old phenom Connor McDavid will acknowledge that, yes, he can envision himself playing for the Sabres in two seasons.

“Yeah, that’s something that’s crossed your mind, I guess,” the slick center said this afternoon inside the First Niagara Center, where his Erie Otters will face the Niagara IceDogs in a Oct. 22 Ontario Hockey League game. “You can’t worry about that right now.”

Right now, McDavid, who’s been dubbed hockey’s next great superstar, is focusing on the upcoming season. Following the campaign, he’ll almost certainly be the No. 1 overall pick in June. The Sabres, of course, could have the top selection.

How good is McDavid?

“If you haven’t heard the name Connor McDavid and you’re a hockey fan, you’re dead,” Otters general manager Sherry Bassin said. “You got to check your pulse.”

Check back later for a full story on McDavid, who was in town to promote the game.
