Winger Zach Benson has joined the Buffalo Sabres on their road trip and could play Saturday against the Tampa Bay Lightning, coach Lindy Ruff told reporters in Florida.
“He was good enough that we got him down here last night,” Ruff said prior to Friday’s game against the Panthers.
Benson, who skated Friday morning, hasn’t played since suffering an upper-body injury when he crashed into the boards Feb. 2 in Florida.
Ruff recently said Benson, 20, was battling another upper-body injury, which Benson told reporters was a “viral thing.”
Benson, who appeared to hurt his shoulder when he crashed into the boards earlier this month, knows he avoided a more serious injury because he stuck his arm out.
“Kind of just a reaction,” he said. “It could’ve been worse.”
Benson has missed four games. He must be activated from injured reserve.
