Tonight’s Sabres game against Hurricanes postponed

Tonight’s Buffalo Sabres game against the Carolina Hurricanes has been postponed.

With a blizzard hammering the Buffalo area and driving bans all over, the NHL really had no other choice.

A make-up date hasn’t been announced.

“Tonight’s game between the Buffalo Sabres and Carolina Hurricanes at First Niagara Center, NHL Game No. 647, has been postponed due to the hazardous weather conditions in the Buffalo area. A make-up date will be announced as soon as it can be confirmed,” the NHL said in a press release.

The Hurricanes play Thursday and Friday, so they can’t simply stay and make up the game Wednesday. NHL teams can’t play three straight days.

The Sabres canceled their morning skate today. The Hurricanes skated as scheduled.

According to the Sabres, the team’s last postponed game was Dec. 6, 2000 against the New Jersey Devils. The contest was played the next day.

Stay tuned for more details.

There’s still some player news today, as Sabres backup goalie Jhonas Enroth and defenseman Henrik Tallinder earned spots on Sweden’s Olympic squad for the upcoming Sochi Games.

Meanwhile, rookie winger Zemgus Girgensons was named to Latvia’s team, which is led by interim Sabres coach Ted Nolan.
