Sabres waive Remi Elie

BUFFALO – The Sabres waived winger Remi Elie this morning.

Elie, 23, isn’t practicing with his teammate inside HarborCenter, meaning if he clears, he could be bound for the Rochester Americans.

Sunday update: Elie has cleared, according to reports.

The Sabres claimed Elie from the Dallas Stars in October. The former second-round pick has played 16 games this season, including the last two, compiling one assist.

Stay tuned for updates. Another move hasn’t been announced.

Defenseman Matt Hunwick and goalie Carter Hutton also aren’t practicing this morning.

Update: Coach Phil Housley said the Sabres are “just managing a roster spot” by waiving Elie.

Housley said he has been talking to general manager Jason Botterill and there could be a corresponding move Sunday or Monday.

In other news, Housley said Hunwick tweaked his lower-body injury and Hutton is sick. Meanwhile, center Johan Larsson, who missed today’s session and Friday’s 7-3 loss to Chicago, has an upper-body injury. Housley said all three players are day-to-day.

  1. Why we even picked him up to begin with is the mystery. Did virtually nothing as a Sabre. Why did it take this long to waive him is the 2nd mystery.
