Sabres’ Ted Nolan on Matt Moulson’s injury: ‘Cross your fingers, hope that it’s good’

Interim Buffalo Sabres coach Ted Nolan doesn’t know if winger Matt Moulson will miss time after the Coyotes’ Shane Doan hit him late in Thursday’s 3-2 win.

“Doctors are looking at him,” Nolan told reporters in Phoenix. “Cross your fingers, hope that it’s good.”

Moulson left the game with 6:05 left and crumbled to the ground in pain after reaching the tunnel behind Buffalo’s bench.

“He took a pretty good, I don’t know if it was a cross-check, a slash – one of those two, either one of them could’ve,” Nolan said. “That was a pretty hard hit that he took. So we’ll see how he feels after.”

Where did he get hit?

“He got hit wrist. He got hit body,” Nolan said. “He got whacked pretty good. So we’ll see how it is in an hour or so.”

The 30-year-old Moulson, an unrestricted free agent following the season, could be traded before the March 5 deadline. A long-term injury, of course, might complicate that.

Moulson has quietly been one of the NHL’s top goal scorers in recent seasons, compiling three 30-goal seasons.
